The NSA Scandals is a big thing in America. Regulation of the internet is on the mind of our elected leaders. First off, the NSA extended wiretappings under the Obama Administration does not surprise me in the slightest. In recent news from Wiki leaks and the sharing of classified information to the public, these things should come natural to a nation built upon individual rights and the protection of liberties, but when does liberties get in the way of progress?
I mean to say where and when do we draw the line on our liberties and freedoms. Don't get me wrong, I believe in individual freedoms and our political rights, but it seems we have become to free to care about anything. Sometimes we need to relinquish some freedoms in order to progress our society. We focus on "I" more than "We" and that is a problem. From what history as shown, we progressed as a race or as a nation through collective working and compromises. During those times, freedoms were restricted, but things got down. The fact is, we have so much freedoms we are distracted from real world problems. We can choose not to listen to people and leave it at that, but when we don't listen, problems arise as we aren't knowledgeable on these issues and that hinders progress.
We need to take into account that we still live with other people, that follow the same laws, and work together everyday to make and earn a living. We need to understand that we all make compromises and with compromises comes things we cannot obtain and freedoms lost or restricted. All I'm saying is that we need to get in our mentality that we are not alone in this world and in order to make great strides as a race, we need to work together, listen and understand, and make sacrifices to do good in this world.
Libertarians preach of pure rights never to be touched or infringed upon, but what good will that do when criminals can get away with things or keep certain information to themselves because it is their right. This kind of absolute thinking will only lead to problems that cannot be solved and will lead to more problems down the road.
Absolute thinking is terrible. It creates Wedge Issues that only has two choices with no compromises. We learned this the heard way during reigns of kings and queens, dictators and tyrants. It leads only to more problems...Please realize that we all have to make some sacrifices to gain what we want. Give and take my friends...give and take.
